You are about to link your number on Wati, kick off campaigns, and watch chats roll in. Then a small roadblock hits, the SIM is already on WhatsApp, the Meta role is wrong, the OTP never shows, and day one of your paid plan slips away. Let’s fix that. Here is a tight, field-tested path to connect your number fast, followed by the traps that cost teams time and cash, and how Heltar avoids them.

Quick take

  • You need an active Wati subscription, admin access in Meta Business Manager, and a phone number ready for WhatsApp Business.

  • Numbers bound to a Wati account are not movable to another Wati account. Pick wisely.

  • If setup stalls, the billing clock does not stop.

What all do you need - Checklist

  • The phone number is not active on WhatsApp. If it is, delete that WhatsApp account first.

  • You have Admin access in Meta Business Manager. Not employee.

  • Business display name and basic profile are ready.

  • Device is ready to receive OTP by SMS or call. Landlines use call.

Step by step: connect your number to Wati

  1. Log in to Wati and click Connect Now.

  2. Sign in to Meta Business Manager with an Admin profile. Click Continue, then Get Started.

  3. Accept Meta terms.

  4. Pick your Business Manager or create a new one. Click Next.

  5. Create a new WhatsApp Business profile.

  6. Fill profile fields, Business Account Name, Display Name, Time Zone, Category. Add a short description and website if you have one. Click Next.

  7. Enter the phone number you will use. Choose SMS or Call for OTP. Click Next.

  8. Enter the OTP. Click Next.

  9. Finish setup. Return to the Wati dashboard and confirm the number shows as Connected.

  10. Cross check in Meta, Business Settings → Accounts → WhatsApp Accounts → Phone Numbers. Status should be Connected.

Where teams lose time and money

  • Active number - If the SIM is already on WhatsApp, verification fails. Clear it first or you loop.

  • Wrong number binding - Connect the wrong number and you are stuck. Wati does not let you move numbers between Wati accounts.

  • Missing admin rights - Without Admin in Meta, you cannot complete the link.

  • Pay first, fix later - Billing starts before setup. Every retry burns paid days and lifts launch cost. At Heltar, we don't start charging you until your setup is complete and your number is connected

Fast fixes if something breaks

  • Recheck the number format with country code.

  • Retry OTP after a few minutes or switch to Call.

  • Confirm your Meta role is Admin.

  • If you picked the wrong number, stop and contact support before binding completes.

Lower Platform Fees and Markups

  • Wati: Wati’s pricing plans start from ₹2,499 per month, scaling up to  ₹16,999 per month for the business plan. The multiple packages and tiered features make it expensive, especially for small and medium-sized businesses. The incremental costs for unlocking advanced features force businesses to either commit to higher-tier plans or compromise on functionality.

  • Heltar: In contrast, Heltar offers lower subscription fees with a base plan starting at a more affordable monthly rate. It is designed to be budget-friendly for businesses of all sizes, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) looking to minimize upfront costs, along with a simplified and transparent conversation pricing model, charging a flat 5% markup across all conversation types.

No Extra/Hidden Charges for Integrations

  • Wati: While Wati provides robust features, many advanced capabilities are locked behind higher-priced plans. Essential features like advanced analytics, automated workflows, and API integrations are only available in the more expensive plans. Apart from that, Wati charges extra fees for employing integrations, like an additional USD 5 per month for a shopify integration, and additional charges for extra users.

  • Heltar: Heltar includes advanced features—automation, analytics, customer segmentation. Businesses benefit from unrestricted access to essential tools allowing them to leverage full functionality of the platform.

Intuitive and User-Friendly Interface

  • Wati: Wati offers a variety of features, but the interface could be difficult to learn for inexperienced users. The tiered functionality makes it hard to locate important tools within the complex menu structure it offers. It may be a real pain for people who are not familiar with navigating multi-tiered software ecosystems.

  • Heltar: Heltar’s platform is designed with ease of use in mind. It features an intuitive interface, making it simple to navigate, even for those new to such systems. The user-friendly dashboard provides easy access to key tools, reducing the learning curve and allowing businesses to get up and running quickly without sacrificing functionality or efficiency.

Well Rounded Customer Support: While Wati does not provide even setup support in the growth plan, in Heltar, End-to-End Customer Support is made available to all customers, irrespective of their subscription plans. For us, at Heltar, Our Customers are our biggest priority, and we ensure they are well served through a comprehensive knowledge transfer of our platform and continued assistance.
